Take A Leap (Year)

One week from today is that phenomenon of the extra day that we get every four years. It is meant to synchronize our calendar to the astronomical or seasonal year, and with our current reckoning we get it once every four years. We could all do well to remember what it is - an extra day - and take into mind the fact it is called Leap Day.

To properly honor the day, first - if possible - I suggest that everyone take the day off. Why use an extra day in the year for work versus personal. In fact I think it should just be a holiday - of every other year we work and are paid for 365 days (Ok we aren't really since most only work 5 of 7 days in the week) why should we be expected to work an extra day?

Second, I propose that everyone use this day to take a leap. Since it is a day even more rare than a blue moon, do something you rarely do - or even better have never done before. Whereas aon other days I might say to do something for others, use this extra day to do something for yourself. It is a great day to cross something off your 'bucketlist'. Use it to start a non-resolution instead of at New Year's Day. I could make my own 29 things to do on Leap Day list, but there are many out there. Here is a great list at OnMilwaukee.com of 100 things to do in Milwaukee. Maybe as the week goes on I will work on my own list... stay tuned.

Anyway, you have a week out from today, use it to plan something special for yourself. Take a leap out of your comfort zone and do something you have never done before.

City Lights Cans Water. Why its better than bottles.

You may have seen the new trend for packaged water with brands like Liquid Death. Now a local brewery, City Lights Brewery , is getting in on the act. Except its not just an act, its not some fad, there are reasons to can vs. bottle water. Good reasons.

Make Men's Health Month About You

The month of November is (one of the) Men's Health Month(s), popularized by the Movember movement. (June is another recognized annual event but since it is November now, November it is.) It's a great foundation, it has been successful and is highly rated for its impact. But, one thing I see with the movement is that while they speak about men's health to the participants, I feel the participants themselves promote it outwardly rather than inward, at them. I personally fell victim to that selfsame issue, but no longer. As of this November, I am taking care of myself.
