Great Play: Support Local Brews and Barks In DRAFT Mag Bracketology

As many others do around this time, DRAFT Magazine is holding their own version of a bracket a la the NCAA basketball tourneys. Since it is a beer magazine obviously their bracket is setup to select the best or favorite of 64 competing beers. Everyone who enters has a chance to win a Beer Meister Kegerator, but the best part is that each brewery involved got to pick a charity they support and DRAFT will donate $1,000 to the winning brew's choice. Fill out your bracket here.

Luckily for us in Milwaukee we have great breweries and great charities. Lakefront Brewery has been selected for their pretty amazing Fixed Gear American Red Ale, and to top it off while many breweries selected national organizations, Lakefront has chosen Wisconsin Humane Society to be the recipient of the donation if they win. There are other Milwaukee and Wisconsin beers such as Leinenkugel's Big Eddy Wee Heavy Scottish Ale (benefits Little Lake Wissota Project in Chippewa Falls) and Sprecher Brewery's Black Bavarian (benefits American Cancer Society) so vote for them as well, but since this is a Milwaukee project and Lakefront picked a Milwaukee-based charity, if it comes down to it I recommend picking them over the other WI brews.

For those of you who are not beerophiles and don't know many of the beers - you can just pick any beer for the other matches or you can even skip selections and just pick Fixed Gear.

City Lights Cans Water. Why its better than bottles.

You may have seen the new trend for packaged water with brands like Liquid Death. Now a local brewery, City Lights Brewery , is getting in on the act. Except its not just an act, its not some fad, there are reasons to can vs. bottle water. Good reasons.

Make Men's Health Month About You

The month of November is (one of the) Men's Health Month(s), popularized by the Movember movement. (June is another recognized annual event but since it is November now, November it is.) It's a great foundation, it has been successful and is highly rated for its impact. But, one thing I see with the movement is that while they speak about men's health to the participants, I feel the participants themselves promote it outwardly rather than inward, at them. I personally fell victim to that selfsame issue, but no longer. As of this November, I am taking care of myself.
