The Man Way: How To Choose A Suit

Many of our articles here are new items about men doing or being good, or Well as it were, but we also have the Heviews which review products and services for the Well-Met Man. But once you have stuff, you need to know how to use it, care for it, even dispose of it. That is where The Man Way column comes in. One of those things every man should have and know how to buy and use is a suit. Luckily, there is a great a guide on how to choose a suit, via information provided by House of Fraser , the leading, national premium department store group in the UK and Ireland with a strong social responsibility  policy. Of all the possessions a man can own, perhaps none can give the impression of being a man  more than a suit. A home may never be seen, you may or may not own a car, but with a proper suit you can instantly make a good impression. The important thing is that a suit need not be expensive, but by selecting it properly for fit you can ensure it makes you look far better than th

Older Adults Need Spring Cleaning Help, Get It From Interfaith & YOU

It may not feel like it yet, but it is Spring, and for many that means doing Spring cleaning. We dust off the cobwebs that have settled over winter and get outside and clean up what we didn't get to in Fall or what Winter left behind. But for a large number of people, though they want to, they can't. Our older neighbors need help to get those things done, and who better to do it than each of us? We men can be the Spring Cleaning superhero for our elders. Thankfully, there is an organization that runs a volunteer program to assist older adults in getting things done whether Spring cleaning, winter snow removal, or summer lawn care. Interfaith Older Adult Programs   has established many programs focusing on quality services, social opportunities, and valuable resources to enhance the welfare of older adults and family caregivers who support them. Their volunteer program makes it very easy for people to provide assistance with opportunities located throughout Milwaukee County

Today 3/14/13 Is Match Day

Today, Match 14, 3/14 or Pi Day , is the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Match Day , when you can double down on your donation with matching donations by the foundation's donors including Brewers Community Foundation, Faye McBeath Foundation, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and many other local funders have pledged $750,000 toward the match pool for that day.

Women Get Less But Give More

With it being International Women's Day I had been trying to think of an approach to celebrate women here where the goal is to celebrate when men do good. Then as many things do, the correct approach came organically. Today I met with a friend to discuss the Well-Met Men project. I talked about one of my main reasons for doing this, that as a male who volunteers I have always felt that we are in the minority in philanthropy and wanted to inspire men to bridge the gap. After meeting I returned to my office to look up some information to send to the friend as follow-up and found this article in TIME Magazine , that reports a study showing women are more generous givers than men. Eureka!

Give. Match. Grow. Milwaukee On Match Day 2013

On March 14, members of the community will come together again to raise funds for 21 food and shelter agencies participating in the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's second Match Day. The 24-hour online event is the only of its kind in Wisconsin and is designed to raise awareness for basic needs in the southeastern Wisconsin and was a success last year  when they raised $1.8 million. Each gift made online that day will be proportionately matched. The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and its donors, Brewers Community Foundation, Faye McBeath Foundation, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and many other local funders have pledged $750,000 toward the match pool for that day.

March Is National Nutrition Month

In the unending cycle of months, as February turns to March (after an extra day this year) and Winter gives way slowly to Spring and our activity level once again increases, it is a good time to focus on one of the most important aspects of our well-being - proper nutrition. After all, as so many similar sayings go - You are what you eat. To provide a means to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics promotes March as national Nutrition Month. The aspect of nutrition and eating well can be a daunting task. Experts continuously debate over what is good for us. One day all fats are bad, the next day some are not only good, but important to our health. The same has happened to carbs and meats. And remember that old food pyramid  and what it became ? The latest iteration is no longer a pyramid even, but a plate (which makes more sense to me anyway - we don't eat

exact¢hange February Report

At the beginning of the year I committed to a program I am calling  exact¢hange , inspired by my  Can Change Change The World  post where I pondered what could happen if we did a personal 'round-up' type program where we rounded up all purchases to the nearest dollar and donated that money to charity. I just checked my February transactions online and if I round up each amount of change to a full dollar I came up with $21.80. Added to the $17.15 from January that is $38.95 for the year.
