It may only be October 1st, but that doesn't mean we can't start looking a month ahead towards Movember. During November each year, during what is Pancreatic Cancer month, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches on men's faces around the world. Through the power of the Mo, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.
For the past few years, Miwaukee has embraced the Movember movement and been at its forefront in the US with various activities that Greater Milwaukee Men as supported. While we like to see new and varied activities, this year you can help raise funds with the standard run in addition to the plethora of activities that will be planned. The Mo Run Milwauke will take place November 10th and their 2013 national charity is Movember.
This is a great time to start getting in shape and participate even if you don't currently run. There are many Zero-to-5k programs out there which will take you in about 4 weeks from the couch to the finish line such as this one from Prevention magazine. There are apps for your smartphone as well.
Use Movember as inspiration to make October as your month to get in shape to help others and yourself be healthy. It would be a great idea to visit the doctor as well to make sure you are good to go for training and while there get your prostate checked (which you can now do with the PSA test and won't have to turn our head and cough for the doc).
